USSAF And Crosman Promote Boy Scout Conservation Trail

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation (USSAF) and the Crosman Corporation have partnered to offer boy scouts from across the nation and around the world special passports that guide them through the 17- acre conservation trail that is part of the Boy Scouts’ National Jamboree.

Each scout that participated on the conservation trail will receive a small passport with that allows them to get stamps from all of the different stations that they attend while traveling through the trail. At each station, the scout will be shown another facet of the many ways in which wildlife and nature are conserved in this country.

The first National Jamboree was held in Washington D.C. in 1937. Over the years it has grown from 25,000 scouts in attendance to between 40 and 50,000. This year’s National Jamboree also celebrates the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th anniversary.

Throughout its history, Crosman has helped support a variety of conservation and youth causes. One of the largest is supplying all of the air rifles used by the Boy Scouts of America during their National Jamboree gathering. Crosman has also been an indispensable partner for seven years with the USSAF and itsTrailblazer Adventure Program which has turned into the largest outdoor education effort in the nation. Later this year, Trailblazer will reach a major milestone of its own by having its one millionth participant.

“By providing youth with the means to embrace an outdoor lifestyle, the Trailblazer Adventure Program’s special passports for scouts fit well with our ‘take it outside’ mantra,” said Ken D’Arcy, Crosman’s President. “The USSAF is known for its conservation and education endeavors and our partnership provides a robust foundation for our efforts and the support of youth learning to shoot safely.”

“The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation is extremely honored to be partnering with a great company like Crosman to promote the conservation trail during the National Jamboree,” said Bud Pidgeon, USSAF president and CEO. “The trail is a unique way to be sure that scouts get a first hand opportunity to get an appreciation of what it takes to conserve our precious wildlife and natural resources.”

Jamboree And Crosman Bikeathlon Kickoff

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

The tents are up, kitchens are churning out meals and the 2010 National Scout Jamboree celebrating 100 years of scouting has roared to life in Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. Crosman is there, providing one million pellets and thousands of RepeatAir 1077 and NightStalker rifles, CO2 and safety glasses for an expected 75,000 shooters.

Among the events Crosman helps to make happen is the Bikeathlon, arguably the most popular event at the Jamboree.  There are four Crosman Bikeathlon courses, one per compound, and Scouts enjoy the competition with each other as much as beating their personal best.  As we covered last week in Part I of the Crosman and Boy Scouts of America series, the Bikeathlon is a timed event with deductions based on their performance at shooting stations along the course.  Pedal hard and fast but blow the shooting because you’re breathing too hard? Try again at a manageable pace so you can make those crucial shots and post a good time.  It’s strategy, skill and patience across two disciplines that make the Crosman Bikeathlon a favorite at the Jamboree.

This year the older members of scouting, the Venturers, will be doing some spelunking with the Crosman Nightstalker.  On a course built by artisans straight from Disney, Scouts will be using nightvision goggles and the Nightstalker to track down baddies in cave simulation.

Congratulations to Boy Scouts of America for 100 years of scouting.  We at Crosman look forward to continuing the shooting tradition for the next 100!

Largest Air Gun Competition Underway

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

The biggest airgun competition in the world doesn’t include a single professional shooter.  Heck, a few of the competitors have never fired a gun. But there are trophies at stake as 1500 participants in the Law Enforcement Explorers Conference seek to become the top shooter.

Exploring is operated by Learning for Life, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America.  The career education programs, in addition to Law Enforcement, include Arts & Humanities, Aviation, Business, Communications, Engineering, Fire Service, Health, Law & Government, Science, Skilled Trades and Social Services.  The purpose of the Explorer program is to “help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.” Each of the career disciplines enable these young people to gain direct knowledge from professional in the field, giving them a headstart in life.  The programs are structured to emphasis the core areas of “career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character, education, and leadership experience.” (more…)

Crosman Bikeathlon Highlights Scout Jamboree

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Beginning Monday,  over 100,000 Boy Scouts from around the world will kick off the National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia.  Celebrating 100 years of Scouting, the 2010 edition of the event is expected to draw over 140,000 Scouts, troop leaders and support staff.  Crosman is the exclusive provider for the Jamboree’s air gun events: Bikeathlon, shooting range and Explorer.  Over 1,000,000 pellets will be fired from Crosman air guns during the course of the 10-day event.

The Bikeathlon is the brainchild of Crosman ProStaffer Bob Soldivera, a longtime supporter of Boy Scouts of America.  When asked about putting together a new event for Scouts, “I contacted a biathlon friend of mine and got the idea for using bikes intead of skis.”  Mr. Soldivera continues to oversee the Bikeathlon as Crosman’s onsite representative, along with other air gun activities during the Jamboree.  The Bikeathlon is a timed event that requires the Scout to ride a bicycle along a course, stopping to shoot a Crosman 1077 at a target, then continuing on the bike. While speed on the course is important, it is accuracy on the range that can make the difference.  Deductions based on shooting performance will be made to reach the final time for the event.

The video above is an interview with a local Scout going to his first Jamboree.  Look for Part 2 later this week!
