This month is the Kick-Off of the 2008 Outdoor Adventure Road Tour presented by Field & Stream. It is a unique hands-on experience for outdoor enthusiasts. Customers will enjoy an extensive, large-scale "mobile" parking lot event and sale that will showcase outdoor adventure sports. This 20 week, 20-city tour will run until August 3rd, 2008, and will visit a total of 14 states across the Southeast, Midwest, Great Lakes, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

The event started in Melbourne, FL and Crosman sent Eric Haase to help out in the Airgun Range and talk with some of our customers. Lets check in with Eric and see how the first day went...

Another exciting launch at the Shot Show this year was the Crosman Archery line of products. This is a perfect extension of the skills of our company into a whole new area of shooting and hunting. One of the most exciting debuts at the Shot Show this year was the Benjamin Discovery PCP gun. This gun has generated a high level of excitement and even higher expectations. The show provided an opportunity some airgun fans and retailers to get their paws on the gun for the first time. The Shot Show is the place where all the shooting, hunting, knife and outdoor gear companies rollout the products you are going to want in the coming year. Crosman is no different; we use this opportunity to get our exciting new products in people's hands and hopefully into their stores.

For those of you not familiar with our place in the world, Crosman is located in East Bloomfield, in the western part of New York State. This time of year we see two things happen with out fail. Shot Show, the biggest convention in the world for the shooting, hunting and the outdoors is an extravaganza of guns, knives and gear that you never knew you needed. The other thing we see this time of year is snow, ice, sleet and freezing rain. Unfortunately for me both of these events happened simultaneously.

A New Airgun Is Designed

After the meeting in New York, a schedule was developed and a project team was assigned to all the tasks that go into designing and fielding a new air rifle. Those who build them one at a time in the basement might not appreciate everything that goes into a new product like this, but there is literature, packaging, education and promotion to consider, not to mention a hundred small but important details on the gun, itself. Just because a couple hand-built prototypes work doesn't mean you're ready to produce them.

The Idea Matures

As I thought about how to present my idea to the management at Crosman, the idea itself began taking on substance. I knew I would be talking to men and women who understand the airgun market quite well, but who do not know the PCP sector of that market as thoroughly as the sectors in which they currently make airguns. They are not without some experience, having marketed Logun PCPs for a brief period several years back, but they have never developed the technology in-house.

Everyone has had a "great idea" at one time or another. You know what I mean, a What They Ought To Do kind of idea. Most of those ideas die as daydreams, but once in a rare while one comes along at the right time and also happens to be the idea everyone is looking for.
