First Sergeant Jeffrey Teiber is the coach and instructor for the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) air rifle team at Calvert High School in Prince Frederick, Maryland. Last year the school purchased a number of Crosman Challenger rifles featuring custom blue stocks, “it was a hit with the cadets, with the feel of the trigger, the different style stock and the great adjustability; the cadets really adapted well to the new rifle,” described Teiber.
Teiber and his team came close in 2010, finished 7th at the Navy Nationals. With the new rifles in hand, their goal for 2011 was to make it to the Top 3. ”The season had many ups and downs, with some cadets having a great match (while) some had a bad match. It always seemed the team (would) pull through,” said Teiber. The team finished the season undefeated and placing second at the Area Championship left them with a feeling of unfinished business as they headed to the National Air Rifle Championships in Anniston, Alabama.
Not only did they out-perform their in-state rivals, they beat them for the championship, winning the Navy National Sporter Championship by nine points.
Said Treiber of his team’s performance, “This is the first time ever this has been done at this school. I would say as their coach and instructor, the Crosman Challenger rifles were the biggest difference. Thanks Crosman for putting together a great rifle!”
