Shot Show ’09 Report: Benjamin PCP Marauder

Without question, our most exciting announcement at this year’s Shot Show was our new PCP gun, the Benjamin Marauder. This gun generated a ton of excitement and just as many questions. There has been a great deal of information  hitting the web during the past week and not all of it is correct, so I would like  to take a moment and do a full report on the Marauder and its features within this report

The Marauder  is not only  a culmination of our own internal development, but more importantly a direct result from  the feedback we received  from you, our loyal shooters. Our engineers, in conjunction with product development did not want to just re-engineer the Discovery, but wanted to create a completely new platform for our PCP line up of guns and accessories.

The first thing you will notice about this gun, or rather you won’t notice is the lack of noise at the shot.  The Marauder features an internally shrouded barrel that captures the sound and makes this gun significantly quieter than any gun we have released and makes it one of the quietest guns on the market today. In the coming months before its release I will  get an audio or video file up so you can see what I mean. Additionally the barrel is choked, to give you more repeatable accuracy with every single shot.

Moving back from the barrel, the next feature you will notice is the multi-shot clip. This air rifle offers a self-indexing 10 shot clip, so each time the bolt is drawn back, the next round moves into place. This clip easily slides out to the side for a quick reload in the field.

The trigger pack has also been significantly upgraded to a fully adjustable, match grade trigger. This will allow each shooter to not only adjust the  sensitivity level of the trigger pull, but be able to adjust the position of the trigger within the trigger pack.

The Marauder has been designed to operate at a starting fill pressure of 2000 PSI. However, this gun can be filled to a higher fill pressure of 3000 PSI for even more shots at a sustained velocity of 1100 fps with .177 caliber and 1000 fps at .22 caliber. The Marauder offers our Dual Fuel technology so it can be filled with CO2 for more shots at a lower velocity.

This is going to be an outstanding gun for both target shooting and hunting/pest control. Lastly, this gun comes equipped with a  beautiful, ambidextrous hardwood stock, complete with custom checkering and a built in pressure gauge.

Our engineers really listened to the feedback we got from the Airgun community and worked hard to create what we feel is a very special gun. We will be releasing this gun on April 15th right here at Crosman.com for $529.00. There will be a very limited number of 100 rifles available in the first release.  More information on the launch specifics will be posted as we get closer.

If you have any questions please ask away. I will be here with answers.

Thanks for reading.

Joshua

Will this gun have a left hand bolt?

  2. Grant says:

How much will spare magazines be and will there be a couple spares included in the purchase price? I’d like three if possible (be able to shoot a good session right out of the box!)

Also, will the gun come with the pump, ala Discovery? And will the Discovery tools (tank, de-gasser, etc) fit the Marauder?

This fits almost perfectly a list I made of what I wanted in a starter PCP. I look forward to ordering one (and a 397 while I’m at it to have one for my brother in law).

    Josh,

What size is the air reservoir? What pellets were used to get the FPS numbers?

    Mahalo!

    Josh,

Good luck with the roll out and Thank you. Excellent name choice: The Marauder was one of the great US Navy aircraft of WWII.
I was lucky and got one of the first Discovery rifles in .177cal direct from Crosman in February 2008 and I was and still am very pleased with it right out of the box. I was planning on getting a .22cal Discovery but my choice has been made; it will be a Marauder in .22cal that will go hunting with me.

April 15th is tax day and it will be much sweeter if I get a Marauder to distract me. Got my charge card ready! Put me on the list today.

Only one additional wish that isn’t covered so far; would love to see a Marauder in .25cal.

This is an outstanding platform for a gun in my opinon. Shrouded barrel and multishot is the real winner for sure. I’m particulary liking the fact that you can choose 2k-3k PSI, ingenious idea on that one. Especially for the guys that already own a Discovery and use the pump. I’m thrilled with my Disco and its truly refreshing to see a large corporation like Crosman actaully listen to the feedback from their consumers and develop a product for them. That’s how you make money my friends. I’m looking forward to the release of this new product, sadly the Marine Corps has my butt in Japan right now so I’ll have to wait until at least Septemeber to order mine, hopefully the price will stay reasonable! Great work fellas!

Thanks so much for the comments guys. It is very rewarding for us to see this level of excitement directed toward something we have all worked so hard on. Let me answer some of your questions here…

C May – Will this gun have a left hand bolt?

No not at this time. The bolt will be just as featured in the pictures.

Scot – What size is the air reservoir? What pellets were used to get the FPS numbers?

The Air Reservoir, is safety rated much higher than the recommended fill pressure. But the gun really performs best, and we recommend that you only fill between 2000 and 3500 psi.

Grant – How much will spare magazines be and will there be a couple spares included in the purchase price? I’d like three if possible (be able to shoot a good session right out of the box!)

Also, will the gun come with the pump, ala Discovery? And will the Discovery tools (tank, de-gasser, etc) fit the Marauder?

We will not be including a pump with this one, the pump and other accessories will be available on the site. But the gun will come alone, no pump and only one clip.

Thanks again to everyone for the positive comments and feedback. Keep the questions coming!

Nice rifle. Any idea of pricing on extra magazines yet? I am sure many who purchase it will want some extra magazines. Will there be an open sight kit as well? Are you producing the stocks in house and what types of woods will be used ?

  8. Ric Grassmick says:

Hi, Josh. Will the Marauder be accurate enough for Field Target use? I’m talking 3/4″ groups at 50 yards. Also, is the barrel as good as the LW in the new Challenger PCP? What about a single shot tray for competition use? Thanks for expanding your line of air rifles with these new offerings. I’ve been waiting for a good, American PCP to shoot with.

  9. john says:

looks like a great gun! can’t wait for a review. For those of us with very limited airgun budgets, can we expect to see a price drop with the discoovery following this new release?

  10. Ric Grassmick says:

Question on the new Challenger PCP. It appears to look a lot like the prototypes the Apelles boys are shooting very well all over the Field Target scene. Will the power level of this gun be adjustable to a high enough level to use as a single shot FT rifle? Thanks.
