One of the hardest things to do as a manufacturer and as an industry leader is to take a break. We are always focused on the next project, the next innovation or the next gun that will keep us one step ahead of our competition. But there are times when we have to pause and get out of the office and on to the shooting range to see how our products perform in the hands of shooters.

It is in this spirit that we recently sponsored and competition shoot in the Northeast Regional Field Target Championships. The shoot, which took place at the Broome County Sportsmen's Club in Binghamton, NY. featured over twenty shooters from three states. Some of the Crosman staff entered, shooting our PCP Discovery.

Airgunning is more than just plinking cans in your backyard or removing the squirrel from your bird feeder. There is a whole world of shooting beyond your everyday that is growing across the country.  Field Target shooting is quickly becoming one of the most exciting shooting competitions for airgunners of all ability levels. 

After the meeting in New York, a schedule was developed and a project team was assigned to all the tasks that go into designing and fielding a new air rifle. Those who build them one at a time in the basement might not appreciate everything that goes into a new product like this, but there is literature, packaging, education and promotion to consider, not to mention a hundred small but important details on the gun, itself. Just because a couple hand-built prototypes work doesn't mean you're ready to produce them.

As I thought about how to present my idea to the management at Crosman, the idea itself began taking on substance. I knew I would be talking to men and women who understand the airgun market quite well, but who do not know the PCP sector of that market as thoroughly as the sectors in which they currently make airguns. They are not without some experience, having marketed Logun PCPs for a brief period several years back, but they have never developed the technology in-house.

It started with an idea
Everyone has had a "great idea" at one time or another. You know what I mean, a What They Ought To Do kind of idea. Most of those ideas die as daydreams, but once in a rare while one comes along at the right time and also happens to be the idea everyone is looking for.
