red dot sight

By Anonymous

I bought this sight with my custom shop 2400 rifle. The rifle is awesome. I didn't listen to the reviews about the red dot sight, and have now achieved idiot status because of it. It's my own damn fault. I figured it was only $16 onto the price of the rifle, so how bad could it be? I'd rather shoot it without sights at all. When I installed it on the gun, it stays cocked over to the left no matter how much I try to straighten it. The red dot isn't exactly a dot, it's more of a blurry spot. It is like looking at a star through a telescope at night. It completely covers the small bull at 33 feet. My rifle has a lifetime warranty, so I'll try to return the sight to get credit for it. I don't have a problem at all using the refund to buy one of their peep sights even though the peep site is more money. At least I can shoot the rifle.

crosman open red dot sight

By Richard

2014-11-14 15:41:35
This style of sight seems to show up on a lot of different airguns with other names on it other than crosman so I guess it is being made by the same company in China or somewhere. This is not a real good open sight. However it is inexpensive and can be sighted in,it just want hold the sight and the red dot looks more like a leak of red paint and is not good for close up shooting,I wish they made a little better quality one and keep the price down to close to this one and all would be good."Keep Slaying the paper"

DOE THE JOB WELL

Have one on my crossbow and crosman 357 for "pest control". Nothing someone HANDY can't fix as far as the wobbly knobs go. A bit of ingenuity and locktite goes a LOOOONG way. Good product, 4 stars for the plastic.

Not bad for the Price

After reading the previous reviews I almost didnt even bother with installing the sight. Im sure glad I gave it a shot. Right out of the package it was almost zeroed in. I have had no problems with it. I will say the battery placement is dumb and the adjustment knobs could be tighter. I plan to put a white paint stripe on them to quickly confirm they haven't moved. It does seem cheap but for 14.99 I cant complain.

Fails to impress as value for money

By Mike

Got it for a Benji NP Trail pistol as funny enough the sights on that don't work with the cocking aid fitted (not enough elevation). So constrained I bought what my shop has, this red dot sight. So far I cannot even get a zero. Everytime I think I nearly have it the zero wildly changes. I have even painted markers on the adjustment wheels and a datum on the mount. So I cannot reall comment on accuracy yet, which is the first and foremost duty of a sight......
The construction is $15 worth of Chinese plastic which is what you get. The NP Trail pistol has a 3/8 rail. This sight has a 3/8 mount..... Does not fit! I had to fit washers on each screw so the mount would be square when tightened.
The red dot sometimes does not project, I have to cycle the switch or tap the housing.
In all it's a very cheap sight that may accomodate your needs if you get lucky and it fits, works and zeros.
This sight and pistol were my 1st Crosman purchase. After being bought up on exclusively English and German airguns I am not impressed.
Fortunately I also bought a 357 CO2 pistol. Crosman forgiven!
My mistake was to not read these reviews before purchase.

Okay for the price

An okay sight for the cost, I'd almost call it more of a decoration or a novelty than a real sight, be warned: it only fits smaller rails, I tried to fit it on an M4177 and it wouldn't fit, so best used for small arms with slim rails

Bad battery placement, loose adjustment wheels

By Anonymous

2013-11-19 22:52:59
I know you can't ask for top end with such a budget price, but this one isn'twworth what I paid in shipping. The windage and elevation wheels are loose, I saw the tape comment, Iddidn't buy it to tape it down. Second, the placement of the battery was not a work of genius, you almost have to take the sight off the gun to change it. Maybeif it wwhere on raised mount, again, not in my plans. So it will have do until my replacement arrives. Not worthy of theCCrosman brand

up-down adjustment too loose

By head2wind

2013-07-26 21:17:05
The over all construction is OK, honestly for $14 its pretty darn good. You have to have a 3/8" rail to mount it, which depending on where you purchase it you may not be aware of this requirement. There is a plastic tab that needs to be pulled out from between the battery and the contacts for first use. Indoor light intensity is a bit too high, would be nice to be able to have two settings, indoor and outdoor. Again, for $14, it works well enough and personally its going to be used outside anyways. Right-Left control stiffness is OK, however would be better if there were physical detents. The Up-Down adjustment is WAY too loose, the slightest touch causes the wheel to move. This will force me to fabricate something to hold the adjustment wheel in place unless intentionally adjusting it. It gets a 4 * because of the adjustment wheels

Good for Youth Training

By Iain D

2013-01-31 01:48:04
Bought this because it was inexpense. I was training my daughter, and it was difficult to check her aim with open sights or a scope. This sight allows very long eye relief and viewing from the side. It is also easier for a child to aim with the dot. It did the trick. Now she has learned how to aim and is really loving shooting.

It Works

By no name

Great unit for the price. Agree with shlznlt, bob, jb254 and others who know how it operates. I use it on a 2300S. Strip of blue painter tape secures the elevation wheel. This is a sight, not a scope. I expect it to do the same job on a FuryNP. 4 stars for having to tape the elevation wheel.

I agree with Gekido who said those giving bad ratings didn't understand how to use it. Instructions would have been good. Would you believe i mounted it backwards, thinking the lens should be near the eye! Once i figured out how to use it, i was amazed. I now can place a pellet in the same hole over and over again. I also agree with Anonymous that the adjustment screws are WAY too lose. I used some electrician's tape to secure it.

Inadaquate Elevation & Windage Adjustment Screws

By Anonymous

2012-06-05 00:43:31
Only complaint is that the elevation & windage adjustment screws (knobs) are too loose; causing "zero" to change at the slightest touch. Screw thread fit is too loose and have no method of locking into desired position. I plan to apply "Locktite" to threads to prevent movement. If you want a inexpensive Red Dot sight, this is an OK choice.

Responding to some of the previous reviews.

By Gekido

I think some of those who put up poor grades did not understand the operation of such a view. The idea is that the red dot is the center of the sight. The dot shows the alignment of the point of impact with the spotlight. The telescopic view work differently in these if the spotlight is the center. Here the red trace the point of impact of the projectile. That way you only have to align a point on the target, instead of two vantage points, as with conventional fixed sights.

I bought several of these scopes/aiming devices. I have them on two .22 rifles, a .22 target pistol and my cross bow. The sight is easy to adust and provides more accuracy and speed of aim thant any notch or peep sight I have used on the smaller caliber guns.
