North Carolina Wins Championship March 29, 2015 Competition, Featured Twitter0Facebook0LinkedIn0 The 2015 National Junior ROTC Air Rifle Championship concluded last weekend with the top three finishers leading the field with Crosman Challenger rifles. The championship featured the country’s top teams from all four military service branches. Brian Hampton from Fort Mill, South Carolina used a Challenger to take the overall sporter class title among shooters from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force branches. Brian, pictured with his coach, Senior Instructor Lt Col Joseph Robinson, is with the Fort Mill, South Carolina MCJROTC team. The top team won a custom Challenger from Crosman. Pictured below are (LtoR): Mark DeBoard, Crosman Shooting Services, Major Russell Armentrout and his marksmanship team from R-S Central High School in Rutherfordton, North Carolina: Jesse Bradley; Jesse will be joining the Marine Corp next year Spencer White; finished 9th individually and will be attending NC State in the fall Taylor Wease; returning to R-S Central to continue her education and help defend the National title Baylee Boone; added a 2015 4th place individual finish to her team title and will be returning to R-S Central “This is huge. No Marine Corps team has placed in the top three since at least 2009, maybe longer”, said the team’s coach, Major Armentrout. “Though R-S Central has won the Marine Corps championship three times, this is our first time to even place at the Interservice Match.” The team scored 4369-139, beating Gulfport High School MCJROTC by two points. While her teammates were taking aim at the JROTC National Championship in Port Clinton, Ohio, Sarah Huffman (also a Distinguished Shooter) was putting her skills to work behind the scenes. Well done Sarah, and congratulations to R-S Central HS MCJROTC for winning the Championship.
