Jim Shockey Steel Eagle is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 23.Rated 5 out of 5 by Nick Name from First impressions .22 cal 75 +/- stoeger 14.3 grain pellets.so far. Sighting in was easy - started at 10 yards and walked back to my preferred range of 35 yards (until I move my fence another 10 yds). Shooting from sitting position, without any aids hitting a 2" gong consistent half the time. Not bad during break in and no resting aids. Working on fine tuning trigger adjustment. Not as bad as some reviewers state - I guess they want a silk purse for a sow's ear price. Scope does not adjust for magnification as advertised on box. No biggy but going to contact crossman to discuss. Ratings are based on the cost. If this was a $600 Diana, I'd be more particular.Date published: 2018-01-30Rated 4 out of 5 by xavier from Great Value One of my best Black Friday/Cyber Monday purchases ever! The gun handles great and shot cycle is smooth. The first stage travel is long with a couple of hitches along the way that should smooth out with more shots. The second stage however is a well defined wall with a very clean break, no creep. Top 3 shot groups at 15yds with Crosman Dome, Piranha, PHP(Best) out of the box were all .75 or less. SBD cap had some plastic shaved off where it joined the metal shroud and it eventually broke off after 75 shots. Will be reaching out to get a replacement so that I can regain its accuracy & sound suppression.Date published: 2018-12-21Rated 2 out of 5 by Cobones from I feel like I've been tricked I recently bought this rifle after reading reviews and checking specs online. While it does seem to be a decent shooter (still breaking it in), the website descriptions are very misleading. First - the Crosman website says "Made in USA", but the rifle has a "Made in China" stamp right on it... Second - the Crosman website shows this rifle is SBD GOLD, but the box it comes in says SBD SILVER. Third - I've reached out to Crosman about these concerns and haven't heard anything back from them. I hope to hear something soon though.Date published: 2018-07-06Rated 4 out of 5 by 1sniper from Took Down a rabbit day 1, .......BUT Ok so Im confused I have the same part number shown above, but my box says silver instead of gold, and states Nitro piston elite , but your pic says Nitro piston elite but specs state Nitro piston 2....... which is it...? Shooting down at 10 degrees 30 yards took down an adult rabbit. I do feel bad but the darn thing wont stop eating the new landscaping my wife and i spent time and money on to make our home look and feel better. I only eye balled it for installing the scope no lapping the rings, no level kit, or dialing it in at all just tightened it down and fired a few shoots and boom 1 rabbit down. I will say though I do have exp on the sniper field.Date published: 2018-06-28Rated 4 out of 5 by DeltaHawk from Decent Riffle The stock has a good feel. This riffle is hold sensitive and be prepared to try a lot of pellets but once the right pellet is found is pretty accurate. Cocking effort is easy. Love the picatinny rail. A better scope is needed for tighter groups. The recoil is kinda hard and noise level is also up there. Overall is a good riffle for a beginner.Date published: 2017-05-15Rated 5 out of 5 by BernieO from Excellent Gun... Very Powerful and Accurate! I'm very pleased with my Steel Eagle. I purchased it over a month ago at Crosman.com, but waited to see how well it performed before doing this review. Initially, it was a little stiff to cock, but got much better after a few hundred 'break in' rounds. It cocks very smoothly now. This gun is very accurate and powerful. And once I learned how best to hold it, I started to get pretty good results. For me, the 'artillery hold' didn't work. I found it best to hold it lightly, but firm, and also pressed firmly against the shoulder. I'm right-handed, so I keep my left-hand fingers on the screw holes to try and keep the same 'hold' each time. Again, the key here is to hold lightly but firmly, and a firm grip on the trigger! It's not pellet picky, and I get good results with Crosman Hollow Point, Crosman Domed Premier, and JSB 18.1 and 15.89 pellets. At 50 yards, the heavier JSB 18.1 gave better groupings. I'm 71, and even with these old eyes :), I can sometimes get 1/2" 10-shot groupings at 25 yards off a bench rest. But most of the time, I'll get 1-1.5" groupings at 25 yards. But I also get those same groupings at 35 yards too! This gun is very accurate, more accurate than me. I believe the Steel Eagle is capable of consistent 1/2" groupings at 25 yards. Hopefully, I'll get there with more practice. When I got the gun, the trigger was slightly over 5 lbs, and not too bad at all. However, I did replace it with a Charlie Da Tuna CBR trigger in hopes of improving my groupings. The lighter trigger is nice, but it didn't improve my groupings <sigh>. Again, for best accuracy, hold the gun lightly but firmly and the same way each time. I tip my hat to Crosman Tech Support, they have been wonderful. Any questions or concerns I had with the Steel Eagle were taken care of quickly and professionally. My only negative is that my Steel Eagle is hold-sensitive, and required a lot of practice to find the best 'hold' for accuracy. But I guess that's true of most springers.Date published: 2018-08-25Rated 5 out of 5 by Back Yard Shooter from Fun to Shoot I'm not a hunter. I shoot targets in the back yard. I have shot over 1,000 round thought it in the past year and keeps a good group at 30 yards. I made a target out of an old fire extinguisher and at 30 yards this gun will put a good dent in it. It's not too loud. My neighbors don't complain. This gun has enough power to take out the pest around your property.Date published: 2018-01-27Rated 5 out of 5 by jackie27 from Amazed Great Shooter Very powerful, had the rifle for 2 years and still going strong. Best ammunition has been the domed pellet by Benjamin.Date published: 2017-05-23
